Course Objectives

The course aims at analysing the economic issues related to the process of European integration through a historical, theoretical and policy perspective.

Through the study of economic integration theories and the main EU policies, students will acquire a critical perspective of the basic issues leading to the development of the European Institutions and the different historical phases of the European Union.

Exam and grading

For those students who attend lectures, there will be 2 short homeworks and one essay/presentation.

Homework is essential to grasp the concepts learned in class - and also very useful to secure the high scores of exams. Homework will be assigned at the end of each course’s part, and turned in at the end of class on the day it is due. Lateness without any excusable reasons is penalized. One day delay is penalized by half points deducted from the total. Scores for two day delay will be zero.

Essay/Presentation will be given in the last two weeks of the course. I will pick papers related to the topics covered in this course and let you select one. Each student is required to write a short essay on a selected paper, and present it. Each presentation is 15-20 minutes long with 5-10 minutes discussion.

For students not attending lectures, the exam will be written.
